New Year, New You?

Updated: Mar 5

At the beginning of each new year, people like to make resolutions and say things like "new year, new you." But let's face it, you're always going to be who you have always been unless you make a conscious decision to drastically change your life and commit to those changes. Most people fizzle out on their resolutions by the end of January. They make excuses, blame themselves, etc. But the truth is, most of them never had any true intention of sticking to those resolutions.

You Can Change Any Time

Here's a fact: If you want to change your life, you can do it at any time, you don't have to wait for a new year to begin. People wait for January 1st to make symbolic changes to their life and make big announcements about those planned changes. But 90% of the time it's all bluster, and by February people have forgotten about all of the promises they made for big changes in their lives.

Real change, sustainable change, starts from within and is quiet. It's a voice inside you that says, "I don't want to live like this anymore." That voice becomes louder and louder until it can no longer be ignored.

Maybe the changes you need to make are relatively easy, like getting in shape or finding a new job. For others like myself, things are not so easy. Some of us have to go through the complete destruction of who we once were. In order to become who we are meant to be, the old version of us must die. From that, the new arises like a phoenix from the ashes. It is a completely transformative revolution. It is The Dark Night of the Soul.
